FAQ

How do I care for my Charcuterie Board?

All charcuterie boards are finished with Odie's Oil, a premium food-safe, solvent free, non-toxic wood finish and stabilizer that will last the lifetime of the board. After each use, the board should be wiped down with a damp cloth and set to dry. Never soak the board under water or put it in the dishwasher.

As the board is continuously used and put into contact with food, wiped clean, and dried, over time the application of a conditioner may be necessary to maintain it's lustrous shine. Mineral oil on it's own, or any food-safe wood finish/conditioner you may already have at home should work fine and be budget friendly.

For those who don't have anything at home, we sell a 4oz Mineral Oil & Beeswax Conditioning Oil made from food-grade mineral oil and local beeswax that you can apply every few months or as needed.

Where does the raw wood come from?

The wood used in all of our products is sourced (grown, cut, milled) from no more than 150km (95 miles) from Toronto, ON, Canada. Working only with local sawmills/farmers allows us to hand select only the best pieces of Canadian hardwoods and to know exactly where our materials come from. This ensures the wood is sustainably sourced, and supports local business.

Always be vigilant when buying a charcuterie/cheese board in Canada/USA that is made from a wood species that does not grow anywhere near you (think Acacia etc). It was certainly grown, cut, processed, and cheaply finished overseas, before being shipped to your favorite home goods store and still sold for a price in-line with ours.

Why are your prices so good?

We are a small shop that has spent the past 7 years finding and building relationships with the best local suppliers, while also being involved in almost every step of the production process. This keeps us very hands-on and our costs low.
